Bible Verses About Work

Bible verses about work are important because they can help us to have a grounded, Biblical view of labor. Pretty much everyone has the need to work to make money in order to buy food, pay rent, etc. There are many types of jobs and many different ways that you can make money. There are also many ideas as to what is considered hard work. When you are at work you always can tell who the hard workers are and who those are that are just trying to earn a paycheck. These Bible verses about work will help you think about your job differently. Whether you are a great, hard worker or one of those who just wants to earn a paycheck, there is something here for you. I’ll list a few of the most popular Bible passages about this topic first then I’ll list some of my personal favorites.

Some Popular Bible Verses About Work

Worker in a Field

Genesis 2:15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men

Deuteronomy 15:10 Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.

Exodus 23:12 "Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest and the slave born in your household, and the alien as well, may be refreshed.” More about this day of rest>>>

Proverbs 12:11 He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment.

My Favorite Scriptures About Work

Proverbs 22:26, 27, 29 Do not be a man who strikes hands in pledge or puts up security for debts; if you lack the means to pay, your very bed will be snatched from under you.... Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men.

Proverbs 12:11 Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.

Deuteronomy 24:14 Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns.

Proverbs 6:6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man.

Colossians 3:22-24 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Thoughts About These Verses

These Bible verses about work really make me think about how I approach my job and how I work with others. It also makes me think about how my employer treats me and how I treat employees and other co-workers. Some of the main points that I see in these Bible verses about work are that we need to work hard, be fair with ourselves, our employer and our employees. How different the working world would be if we all just followed Gods original plan. Think about the things that you need to change in your life at work. Maybe it is your attitude, maybe you need to ask for a raise or maybe you should consider changing jobs.
